Automatic gates - an indicative DIY installation (may vary by country)
Cable considerations:
A 230volt single phase 13amp power supply will be required at the gate post. Any cable must be suitably protected in
either protective conduit or run in Steel Wire Armoured Cable for automatic gates.
Please bear in mind that power supplies for garden lighting may not be suitable as this may not be a permanent live
supply.
If you are in any doubt about this, please consult a qualified electrician.
If you want a pair of automatic gates, you will need cables or ducting between the posts.
If you are planning to use a Video or Audio intercom to allow visitors to communicate between the gates andhouse,
addional wiring will be required from the gates to the final position of the telephone or video monitor in the house.
Installing the automatic gates operators:
To allow the Gate operators to work correctly and efficiently, the gates must be in a good state of repair and working
well without binding or scraping the ground.
Ensure that the hinges are well lubricated and free moving.
Gate Stops in both the open and closed position will be required.
Due to the wide variety of installations, it may be necessary to purchase additional nuts, bolts, masonary bolts and
coach screws etc.
General automatic gates installation fixing packs often supplied by the gates company may not suit your particular installation.
When installing certain gate operators on steel or wrought iron gates, some welding may be required.
Electrical Connections:
Whilst the installation instructions show clearly how to make the necessary connections to the control panel, care must
be taken to ensure that the correct connections are made. Automatic gates supplier warranties may not cover damage caused by incorrect
electrical connections.
If you are in any doubt about this, please consult a qualified electrician.
All electrical connections must be made in a waterproof enclosure.
A small number of additional electrical items such as terminal strips, insulation tape and small waterproof enclosures
may be required to complete your automatic gate installation.
